How to Talk to Law enforcement!
This civilian-focused workshop provides essential tools for navigating interactions with law enforcement. Participants will learn how to protect their rights and remain aware during encounters that may range from friendly to hostile. Jump in for a great time on learning how to talk to law enforcement!
What You Will Learn
This session will provide a deeper understanding of the legal landscape during a stop or interrogation:
- Your Constitutional Toolkit: A deep dive into the 4th and 5th Amendments—knowing what they actually protect and how to use them in real-time.
- Police Powers & Limitations: Learn what officers are legally allowed to do (and what they aren’t), including the difference between a “detention” and an “arrest.”
- Essential Phrases: Practice the critical phrases highlighted in our guide:
–“Am I free to go?” – Determining if you are being legally detained.
–“I do not consent to a search…” – Asserting your right to privacy regarding your car and property
–“I invoke the fifth” / “I don’t wish to answer questions” – Understanding the absolute importance of remaining silent to avoid self-incrimination
- De-escalation for Civilians: Strategies for staying safe and composed while firmly standing your ground
